Happy July! July is by far the best month of the year 🙂 Not only is it my birthday month but the month also consists of Independence day, fireworks, Popsicle’s, BBQ’s, watermelon and all of the red, white and blue you can handle.
The Airborne and Special Operations Museum here in Fayetteville puts up this beautiful field of flags (Field of Honor) each year from May until just after Independence Day. The field consists of hundreds of flags, each in honor of someone who is currently serving or has served our great nation. Many of those honored in this field consist of service members whom made the ultimate sacrifice. While doing some research about the Field of Honor, I learned that the first Field of Honor was actually in Utah.
One of the things I love about the 4th of July is the town celebrations that happen. Growing up, the Willard 4th of July celebration was always something that I looked forward to. The Willard celebration consisted of breakfast, a parade, booths, small rides, a sprinting race, hamburgers and fireworks! I used to love to participate in the sprints because back in the day I could kick some butt and win the race. I am sure if I raced today I would most likely get my butt kicked. This year I am going to celebrate with my dad. He is going to be visiting and I am so excited to take him on some bike rides and show him around North Carolina.
What is your favorite thing about the 4th of July? What are your plans this year?
