First of all, can I just say that it is a small Army and sometimes that is such a cool thing! I got to spend a month in Hawaii with Sarah and now we are here in Alabama/Florida at the same time a year later. She is visiting her boyfriend, Nick, who is here to start flight school. Also, when we got to the Spring, Nicks roommates friend went to introduce himself but we both recognized each other and then realized that we had met at Fort Knox last year. So that was kind of fun.
Vortex Spring is located near Ponce De Leon Florida in the panhandle. This spring has fresh water flowing through it every second and remains around a temperature of 68 degrees F. According to their website, Vortex Spring is recognized as one of the best and safest diving resorts in the country.  I was surprised at how cold and more importantly, how clean this spring was especially because the day we went was a stormy day. I really felt like this place was a hidden gem because when we lived in Alabama before, we never knew about this place.
There is so much to do at Vortex Spring! We just did a day trip so we stuck to swimming, snorkeling and playing on the water slides/swing. They also offer diving, camping, lodging, equestrian trails, all-terrain vehicles, motocross, and paintball. If we were going to be in Alabama longer then I would want to plan a couple of days to check everything out!
It was a fun day and I am glad that we decided to brave the storm and go check it out. It turned out to be the perfect day because the rain stopped, it wasn’t deathly hot and it wasn’t very busy! Florida is such a cool state! I have a few other places on my list that I need to go check out in Florida while I am still near by.

Have you ever been to Florida? If so, leave me a comment and tell me what needs to be experienced!

  1. Fun! I’ve been to Destin, Watercolor, Miami & Key West. All fun in different ways. Key West was a BLAST – rent a bike and ride EVERYWHERE on that island.
