Last Trip to Panama City Beach + Road Trip to San Antonio

Panama City Beach will forever and always be one of my favorite places. My friend Heather and I decided that we needed to make one last trip before I took off for San Antonio. Minus the biting flies it was the perfect day. It was the perfect temperature and because it’s no longer the tourist season, the beach was pretty empty.  October is seriously the best time to go to Panama City Beach.
My drive to San Antonio was a rather interesting drive. Long car rides are not my specialty so I have to make frequent stops just to make it to point B without falling asleep. I made my first stop at a Dairy Queen somewhere in Mississippi. I thought it would be a good idea to eat ice cream outside without realizing that it would probably melt in 5 seconds and be a disaster.
My second long stop was in Baton Rouge. I was thankful to be in Baton Rouge on a quite Sunday afternoon because I imagine it gets very busy in that city during the week.  After doing a bit of research, I ended up walking around the river walk area. It was really beautiful area and I could have spent the entire day there. Not only was the pier amazing but there was also the U.S.S Kidd, The Art and Science museum, the Old State Capitol building (looks like a castle) and some other close by activities to do downtown.
I ended up staying the night in Lafayette Louisiana. Long story short… It was a poor life decision. I decided to go get dinner at the waffle house by the hotel and a man came in yelling to call 911. He was very sweaty, pale and out of breath so I was concerned that perhaps he was having a heart attack. I am pretty sure that he had some psych issues and needed medical attention but there wasn’t anything I could do about it because he ran out the door and didn’t stop running. After that little episode I sat down and started talking to the waitress. She proceeded to tell me some rather shocking stories that only continued to confirm my uneasy feeling about the town. After the eventful dinner I went back to my room and listened to dogs bark for the next 5 hours. I was SOOOOO happy to leave in the morning.
My last stop before arriving in San Antonio was in Houston. I wanted to see these giant statues of the presidents heads but unfortunately they had been removed about 3 years prior and I just had old information.  After finding out that they weren’t here anymore I decide to hit up Common Bond Cafe and Bakery. I was overwhelmed by the amount of amazing treats they had! It was really interesting to drive around Houston for a little bit, check out the damage and see how they have been rebounding from hurricane Harvey. I really wish that I had more time to explore there but I was sick of driving and just wanted to be in San Antonio already.
This is already a pretty long post so I’ll write about my first week in San Antonio in another post.

I think that the best part about road trips is getting to explore new surroundings and jamming to tunes. What is your favorite thing about road trips? Leave me a comment 🙂

  1. It sounds like an interesting journey, Kayla, if not a perfect one. I love road trips, the sense of discovery they entail, the opportunity to expand my horizon and to explore the natural beauty of so many places.
I hope you will like it in San Antonio.
    Best wishes,

    1. Thank you Tanja! I agree, there is a special kind of magic when getting to see somewhere new. Even if it is just for a small amount of time. San Antonio has been really busy. I hope to get out and explore a little bit more here in the next few weeks while here.
